INFORMATION FOR TAXPAYERS


ASSESSMENTS:

Any questions concerning your assessment should be directed to the Tax Assessor. The Tax Collector is responsible for the billing and collection of taxes only. The Tax Assessor can be reached weekdays 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM at (732) 341-1000 ext. 8300.

PAYMENTS:

Taxes are payable quarterly on the first days of February, May August and November after which dates they are delinquent and subject to interest. N.J.S.A 54:4-66

INTEREST:

Any taxes remaining unpaid by the 1st day of February, May, August and November are subject to interest at the rate of 8% per annum up to $1,500.00 and 18% per annum over $1,500.00. Municipalities may provide for a grace period not exceeding 10 calendar days. A 6% penalty may be charged on any delinquency in excess of $10,000.00 if not paid by the end of the fiscal year. N.J.S.A. 54:4-4-67

FLOOD INSURANCE:

Toms River Township is an eligible community for flood insurance. You are hereby advised that residents may purchase Federal Flood Insurance. Failure to purchase such insurance by a property owner will result in the denial of Federal Disaster Assistance to any such owner in an amount equivalent to that which could have been covered by Federal Flood Insurance.

TAX BILLS:

This bill should be given to a new owner or his paying agent upon sale or exchange of this property. A charge may be imposed for a duplicate tax bill.

TAX SALE:

Any delinquency from the State Fiscal Year July 1, 1996 to June 30, 1997 that remains delinquent on October 1, 1997 may be subject to tax sale after October 1, 1997.

APPEALS

Appeals for added and omitted assessments must be filed on or before December 1 of the current year.

Appeals for regular assessments must be filed on or before April 1 of the current tax year.
