TOMS RIVER TOWNSHIP

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

Road Division

The Toms River Township Department of Public Works Road Division is responsible for 2104 Township streets which equal approximately 400 miles, street signs, storm drains, drainage, bulkhead repairs to Township owned property and street sweeping.

If you need to report a damaged or missing street sign, pothole, clogged storm drain or any other road related program, please call 732-255-1000 ext. 8103.

Snowplowing: During a snowstorm, the main thoroughfares are plowed first. Secondary roads are then plowed. In an effort to save time and make all roads passable as quickly as possible, not all streets are plowed curb-to-curb. After all streets are opened, we will make every effort to plow curb-to-curb. Please note that the plow cannot be lifted at every driveway. It is the responsibility of homeowners to open up their driveways. So, please wait until the snowplow has completed plowing curb-to-curb before shoveling the end of the driveway. Remove cars from streets before snowstorms so roads can be cleared properly.

Streetlights: If you have a streetlight out or problem, please call the electric company at 1-800-662-3115 or 1-800-545-7738.

Adopt A Storm Drain Program:

The Township of Toms River Department of Public Works is pleased to announce an Adopt-A-Drain program, funded in part by a grant from the Clean Communities Program.

The new program is consistent with recent Federal regulations established to protect environmentally sensitive estuaries and waterways. The openings on the new bonnets are no larger than two inches above the grates to keep floatables and other large objects from getting into the drainage system and then to our waterways, streams, rivers and bays. The downside of this new process, however, is that debris collects on top of the basins more quickly than in the past, thereby reducing the flow of stormwater and causing minor flooding.

Our Public Works personnel are working hard to keep up with the additional maintenance, but we cannot do it alone. We need residents and neighborhood volunteer groups to help us clean stormwater basin grates so they all function properly.

If you or your organization would like to participate, our department will provide you with trash bags and gloves and will remove the collected debris. Please call, write or e-mail us. The address is Toms River Township Department of Public Works, 1672 Church Road, Toms River, NJ 08753. Our e-mail us at dpw@townshipofdover.com. Or call 732-255-1000 extension 8104. We look forward to hearing from you.
