Toms River Township Recycling Convenience Center

 

In order for us to serve the residents of Toms River Township efficiently and effectively, and to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws, we must strictly adhere to certain rules and regulations. Your cooperation and understanding is expected and will be greatly appreciated.

Location: Behind the Toms River Township Public Works Department - 1672 Church Road

Hours of Operation: 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday

Closed: The Recycling Convenience Center will be closed Sundays and all Township holidays starting September 2007.  Township holidays are as follows:  New Year’s Day, Lincoln’s Birthday, Washington’s Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Election Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday following Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Free wood chips and leaf mulch are available for pickup.

Requirements:

·  Must be a Toms River Township resident with proof of residency (driver's license, utility bill, tax bill).

·  Residents are allowed only one visit/load per day.

·  NO CONTRACTORS - NO DEMOLITION

·  JOBS REQUIRING BUILDING PERMITS MUST HAVE A TRACKING RECORD FOR THE CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY TO BE ISSUED BY THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT.

Vehicle Size:

Vehicles allowed into the Recycling Convenience Center can be no larger than a pickup truck. Rental pickups are allowed, but they must not exceed 8,000 lg. G.V.W. Commercial vehicles such as landscaping vehicles carrying yard waste or contractor vehicles carrying construction debris are prohibited.

Allowable Visits:

Only one visit/load per day of household items is allowed. If you are dropping off brush or picking up mulch or wood chips, you may enter more often. Over 100,000 vehicles utilize our facility yearly and the volume of material that is generated must be transported to various facilities throughout the county daily. N.J. DEP regulations do not permit any trash to be stored on the ground.

 

Materials Accepted at the Convenience Center***

Appliances (Metal)

Due to Federal Regulations, any appliance which has Freon in it must be certified that the Freon has been properly removed (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers).

Batteries

Household and car batteries are accepted.

Cement/Cinder Blocks/Bricks/Etc.

Small quantities are accepted.

Clothing

Township residents can bring used, but serviceable clothing, to bins for recycling.

Furniture

All kinds of furniture including pianos/organs/pool tables.

Garage Doors

Must be dismantled.

Leaves

Can be dropped off at the Recycling Center year-round.

Metal

Can be dropped off at the Recycling Center year-round.

Oil-Motor, etc.

Can be dropped off at the Recycling Center year-round.

Paint

Water and oil base and marine paint (no varnish or thinners).

Propane Tanks (empty)

Size: 20 lb. Maximum.

Tires & Tire Rims

Car and light trucks only, tires off rims, separate tire from rim.

Windows and Doors

Can be dropped off at the Recycling Center year-round.

Wood/Fencing/Decking

Cut to 4'X4' sizes or smaller, no pressure treated wood.

Yard Debris

Brush/branches - leaves must be kept separate.

Shrink Wrap

Can be dropped off at the Recycling Center year-round.

Ocean County Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Program:

Each spring and fall, the O.C. Solid Waste Managment, Recycling Department, sponsors a Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Program.
