Dover Township Parking Authority to Present Contribution

The Dover Township Parking Authority is scheduled to present a donation check to the Shore Animal Volunteer Enterprise (S.A.V.E.) on Tuesday, October 24th.   The check for more than two thousand dollars will be handed over to a representative of the non-profit group at Dover Township’s public meeting in Town Hall, 33 Washington Street sometime after 6 PM.  These monies are the proceeds from the 2006 Toms River Pet Parade and Fun Fair held in Huddy Park on September 30th.

Parking Authority Chairman Bill Clegg stated, “We are very pleased to be able to make this contribution.  We staged this event as a community service.  It was intended as fun and inexpensive family entertainment for the entire crew, including the family pet.  It made perfect sense to turn this into a fundraiser for S.A.V.E., a struggling non-profit, all-volunteer group that supports our Township’s own animal shelter.  Clegg added, “We were thrilled that the Township decided to partner with us.  This was truly a collaboration of many.  We pooled our resources in the form of volunteers and donations of goods and services from a generous and enthusiastic business establishment.  Almost all the supplies and services we needed were donated.  Though most of the groups that joined us in Huddy Park were non profits, there were a number of vendors who paid for table space and some who even offered donations.”

More than 3000 guests attended this year’s Pet Parade and Fun Fair.  There were numerous non profit agencies, government offices, animal rescues, and civic organizations with child friendly educational displays and materials, giveaways, crafts, and activities to offer.  Costumed characters strolled the park and horseback riding and canine obedience exhibitions were staged simultaneously with the main event, an amateur pet show and competition.
